Having once visited the hometown of Mozart, you will definitely put this place to the list of cities to visit again. Salzburg is situated on the North at the foot of the Alps and near the Salzach River.

Before you go skiing on one of the most amazing ski trails of Salzburg’s resorts, get acquainted with the city and its history. First of all, go to the Residenzplatz with the Residenzbrunnen Fountain of the XVII century in its centre. Having taken a selfie with this wonderful view, continue your tour: visit the Panorama Museum, Neue Residenz and the Art Gallery of the European countries. From the square, the Getreidegasse street starts, where you can find Mozart’s residence.

Religious sights are also worthy to be mentioned: St Peter's Abbey (dated 696), the Franciscan Church (dated 1223), Salzburg Cathedral (dated 1598).

If you want to visit Royal residences, castles tours can be interesting for you. Hohensalzburg Fortress is located atop the Festungsberg 120 metres above sea level. You can get there either by cable-railway or walking. From the observation point of the castle, you will enjoy a wonderful view of the Old Town. Mirabell Palace is also worthy to visit - now it is the Barocco Museum. The Palace garden is famous for 170 dwarves figures installed in it.

If you travel with children, take a chance to go to the local zoo - environment conditions of animals are similar to natural surroundings and wildlife. Amusement parks are situated on the outskirts. 40 km of the journey to the “Ruhpolding” or “Fantasiana” parks will be fast with a rented car with a driver in Salzburg. Children will be excited to try roller coasters, dinosaurs and other amusements.

The majority of tourists go to Salzburg in the summertime to the Music Festival dedicated to Mozart. This custom has occurred in 1920 and it is still celebrated in triumph every year. In January there is Perchtenlauf, a local folk celebration and in September - the Archbishop’s Day (this holiday looks more like an outdoor festival). In summer tourists and locals go to Salzkammergut for beach holidays near the Hallstätter See river and in winter - to ski resorts. Near Salzburg, there are Bad Hofgastein, Bad Gastein and Kitzbühel where you can enjoy not only ski trails but also thermal springs. It is possible to get there by transfer in Salzburg.

The local transport infrastructure is comfortable for the Austrians but not for tourists. If you don’t know German, you will have difficulties with the local buses and shuttles schedule understanding. Taxi cabs are usually parked near shopping malls, airports and railway stations. Hitch-hiking is not common among the Austrians. If you don’t know how to get Salzburg from ski resorts and vice versa, hire a transfer.
