Limassol is the second-largest city in Cyprus. It’s located on Akrotiri Bay shore. The weather in Limassol is always comfortable: the beach season lasts from May to October, but in winter the average daytime temperature never falls below +18 °C. Although the city is not as popular among young people as Ayia Napa, it is worth to visit: clean municipal beaches, well-maintained promenades, and 100 metres long pier.
How to get to Limassol? Despite there’s no airport in Limassol, business and economic center of the Island perfectly located between Larnaki (60 km) and Paphos (66 km) airports. You can get from there by bus (for 3 hours) or by airport shuttles. If you arrive at night, both of these ways will be comfortable at all. Direct transfer to the hotel will take only 40 minutes. The car will be delivered fast at any time.
There are different types of hotels for all the people: from luxury apartotels to cheap hostels. You can book a big house or cozy studio in the center of the resort, if you do not need a hotel service.
The biggest port on Cyprus is placed near antique and almost extant settlements of Amathus and Kourion. There is an archaeological Park not far from Kourion. The ruins of the city, dating from the 12th century BC, are well preserved down to the columns, arches and mosaics.
The first mention of Limassol in historical documents is associated with the arrival of Richard the LionHeart and the Crusades. the King of England conquered the island, simultaneously destroying Amathus, on the ruins of which the modern part of Limassol is located.
What to see in Limassol? The city’s most recognizable features - are perfectly saved castles of the XIII century in the Romanesque style. There is a Museum of the Middle Ages in Limassol castle, and in the knight's fortress Kolossi there is an exhibition of the famous wine "Commandaria". There is also worth visiting area of the Old Harbor. For children will be interested in Zoological garden, water Park "Fasouri" and amusement Park "Galaxy".
It is more convenient to move around the city by Shuttle buses; also there are about 20 Bicycle station around the city where you can rent a bike. In case you want to explore the coast and other nearby resorts of the island, you can always rent a car with a driver in Limassol and go on a small trip.
