Aalborg is a cute college town and at the same time a major industrial centre in northern Denmark.
There are several ways to get to Aalborg. Close to the city, there is an international airport that has regular flights from the nearest Nordic countries. You can also get there by train or by bus from other Danish tourist centres. Besides, you can book a transfer to Aalborg from Copenhagen, Odense, or Aarhus and get to your destination much faster and with comfort.
The historic centre represents a large number of quarters with cosy Renaissance houses and beautiful 15th-century squares. The Jens Bang’s House is considered to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the city as well as the largest Renaissance building in Northern Europe. If you want to admire the house from the inside, you need go to Denmark's oldest pharmacy which is located in this house.
Be sure to visit the Museum of Modern Art which consists of the main building, library and chamber music hall. You will see many interesting exhibits at the end of the 19th and 20th centuries. Next to the museum, there is a well-groomed garden with modern sculptures.
Lindholm Hee is Aalborg's most mysterious landmark. This huge open-air museum has numerous artefacts of the Germanic Iron Age. It also houses the world's largest Viking burial ground. The remains of more than 150 stone ships have been discovered here. Excavations are still going on here, and nobody knows what else will be found there.
The Park of music is a very picturesque park, where you can take a good walk and listen to pleasing music. Next to each tree there is a music box, which plays famous compositions. Many people spend several hours here going from one tree to another and listening to different melodies.
The weather in Aalborg, as in the rest of Denmark, is quite cold and dank in all seasons except summer. That's why the summer months are the best time for visiting the city when the temperature fluctuates around +21 °C.
