De luchthaven van Almeria ligt op 9 kilometer van de gelijknamige stad op een schilderachtige plek. Op zijn grondgebied zijn er slechts twee terminals: de eerste bedient binnenlandse en internationale bestemmingen, de tweede is vracht. Meer dan een miljoen mensen maken gebruik van de luchthaven. Dit is het op één na belangrijkste en drukste vervoersknooppunt in Andalusië. Tegenwoordig maken hier meer dan 40 luchtvaartmaatschappijen landingen en vertrekken. De administratie voerde een grootschalige reconstructie uit en aan het einde van de twintigste eeuw vlogen vliegtuigen vanaf het vliegveld naar Madrid en Barcelona.
