p> Cologne is located in the western part of Germany, in North Rhine-Westphalia, off the banks of the Rhine River. During the Second World War, all buildings were destroyed, except for the Cologne Cathedral. Its construction began in the middle of the 13th century and ended in the late 19th. This is the third highest church, which reaches 157 meters. Monumental Gothic facade and towers delight tourists: sometimes the cathedral is compared with Notre-Dame de Paris. This is one of the most popular places to visit.
p> The restored architecture in the center also impresses with its energy and grandeur. The uninitiated guest does not even suspect that the Romanesque buildings were reconstructed in the 20th century. In historic Innerstadt there are luxury hotels and most of the attractions, including the Cathedral.
p> Cologne consists of 9 districts. Travelers can take a walk in the picturesque parks in the Lindenthal area, visit the zoo in Nippes, and go from one bank of the Rhine to another through a curtain bridge in Rodenkirchen. It is best to visit the Town Hall Square in the evening. The Town Hall and its surrounding buildings are illuminated at dusk, thereby creating a festive atmosphere. Equally beautiful are the Church of St. Martin and the Church of the Holy Apostles, made in the Romanesque style. The oldest building, laid several centuries before the Cologne Cathedral, is the Church of St. Gereon of the 5th century.
