You should always plan your trip in advance, especially if you are going to a place like Avadhara. This village is located in the Caucasus Mountains in the reserve far from airports and railway stations. How to get to Avadhara? You can take a bus tour here from the coast of Abkhazia, or travel by yourself from Sokhumi or Gudauta. The best way is to book a transfer since you won’t have the local driver will know better how to reach this remote location with comfort.

The resort is 18 kilometres from the lake Ritsa of Ritsa Nature Reserve. Because of the unique animals and plants, you are charged a fee to visit this reserve. There are a lot of lakes, rivers and mineral springs here.

There is a guesthouse in the Avadhara village but you always have to book your room in advance. The tourists love to go on long hikes through the Passes Ancho Pyva and Chki to the waterfall on river Lashipse and the valley of seven lakes.

Avadhara is always busy. Wintertime attracts skiers and snowboarders to the untouched snows for freeriding. This is not an official ski resort yet, so remember to pack all the gear for your vacation, you can’t rent anything here. Don’t count on lifts either.

The closest ski resorts to Avadhara are Krasnaya Polyana and Rosa Khutor in Russia. Here you can hire a ski instructor for beginners. A couple of hours can further your training and boost your confidence, to try new slopes. To save money get yourself a ski pass. To travel to Krasnaya Polyana from Avadhara hire a car with a driver he will help with your gear and you won’t have to rely on public transport.

The climate in Avadhara is mild and the temperatures rarely drop below zero. Check the weather forecast in advance when you plan your winter vacation. Remember that the road to Avadhara can be closed due to the weather conditions.
