Getting around Dubai International Airport
Dubai, a city in the middle of the desert, is known for so many things, but most of all for the state-of-the-art architecture reflected in its skyscrapers, luxury resorts, contemporary sightseeing attractions and vibrant culture. In addition, it’s a heaven for shopaholics and fashionistas of the world. When visiting Dubai, be prepared for your jaw to drop, as it’s the most over-the-top and unique tourist attraction on earth. The first thing you get to see in Dubai is the airport. The city is served by two international airports:
- Dubai International Airport (DBX)
- Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC)
Dubai International Airport is World’s busiest airport by international passenger traffic. As the city’s primary flight hub, most likely it will be the airport of your arrival. In 2019, before the pandemic hit, it served over 86 million passengers, connecting more than 240 destinations across six continents. DBX is a home to over 100 airlines.
The airport has a lot of things to offer upon your arrival. In case you’re hungry after a long-haul flight, there are in total 43 spacious dining places, restaurants and cafes with cuisines from all over the world, where you can grab a meal.
You can also have a shopping spree, as the airport presents a variety of luxury brands boutiques, exquisite wine shops and gift kiosks to its visitors.
In case you want to relax, you can drop by for a stress relieving massage session at the airport’s spa facilities. For a deeper relaxation, you can take the plunge into a swimming pool at a local health club, where you can also take your time and chill in the jacuzzi, sauna or steam room. It’s easy to unwind at DXB.
The airport is situated some 15 km from the city center, which is pretty close and it won’t take too much time to get to your destination. Here are the main means by which you can reach the city center.
Metro
Conveniently, the Dubai metro system is directly connected to the airport. There are two stations located at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. In order to access the Dubai Metro, you will need a NOL card, a contactless smart card used to pay for public transport. You can purchase it from the station itself.
The metro ride to Burj Khalifa in the city center will take 20 minutes with a ticket fare of $2, which is the cheapest way of traveling from the airport so far.
Bus
All three terminals have their own bus stops, which you can find right across the entrance. You will also need a NOL card to take a bus, you can’t pay cash to the driver. The buses operate 24 hours a day with 30-minute intervals. Ticket price varies from $2 to $4. Despite being a low-cost option, it’s time-consuming, as it takes over an hour to reach the city center.
Taxi/Transfer
The airport provides an official taxi rank at each terminal that operates 24/7. It will take you as much time to reach Dubai city as taking a metro, 20 minutes and you’re there. Taxis charge $0,53 for each km, which in total will cost you about $20 to get to the city center. But if you want a cheaper deal, you can always opt for a transfer service.
We recommend GetTransfer, as it offers the best prices in the area. In case you don’t agree with the company’s pricing, you can offer yours, which is pretty convenient.
For a group of four and more people, GetTransfer can find you a vehicle that suits the size of your company with all the baggage you have. Another sweet little bonus is that you can share the ride cost, which is beneficial for everyone.
