We choose Gettransfer on recommendation of our friends. But began to worry after reading reviewsio at the last minute. The luxurious Mercedes-Benz came to us at low cost. There were water, wi-fi in salon and the driver was very attentive and drove carefully. Our journey began perfectly thanks to this service.

The best ways to get from Newark International Airport to Manhattan

Flying into New York for the first time is pretty exciting. Once your plane approaches the city, you get petrified by its legendary skyline, the view will simply leave you stunned. New York is a melting pot of cultures with people speaking over 800 languages. Being a symbol of cultural diversity and freedom, the city offers you endless opportunities. You will most certainly have the time of your life when visiting the Big Apple.

But before getting to know the city in person, let’s have a look at its airport system, which by the way, is the busiest in the U.S. and the second busiest in the world after London.

To start with, there are three major airports, that serve the city:

  • LaGuardia Airport
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport
  • Newark Liberty International Airport

Which airport suits you the best depends on the part of the city you are about to stay in.

Despite being located in New Jersey, which is New York’s neighbouring state, Newark Liberty International Airport is considered one of NYC airports. Situated some 16 miles from Midtown, it is a hub for domestic and international flights. Over 30 airlines operate from and to Newark.

Being the farthest NYC airport, it is surprisingly easy to access, especially if you’re staying on the west side of Manhattan. From Newark you can reach most parts of the city even faster than from, let’s say, LaGuardia Airport, which is twice as close to Midtown, but has poor public transport access. This is not the case with Newark.

Take a look at what the airport has to offer in terms of transportation to Manhattan.

Train

Just as with JFK Airport, in order to get to the nearest train station you want to take the AirTrain.

AirTrain Newark is a 3-mile monorail system connecting the terminals of EWR Airport with New Jersey's public transportation system. It runs 24 hours a day.

AirTrain circles between all three EWR Airport terminals. It picks up passengers directly from a terminal and takes them to the nearby Newark Airport train station. That’s where you change to a NJ Transit train. Please notice that NJ Transit has no service between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Trains provided by NJ Transit are considered to be the cheapest and quickest way of getting into New York. From there, your next destination is Penn Station in NYC.

Careful! Don’t confuse it with Newark Penn Station, as the train also has a stop there. Your final destination is New York Penn Station!

As soon as you get to NYC Penn Station, you can take the subway to continue your journey to the place of your accommodation.

The journey from Newark Airport to New York Penn Station usually takes about half an hour. As for the ticket cost, it’s about $15,25 for an adult, the AirTrain ride is included.

Despite being the fastest way to Midtown Manhattan, it can be tiring navigating the public transportation system after a long exhausting international flight. You might not have the energy lugging your heavy bags on the subway, not to mention you can easily get lost in there, especially if you are new to such a big city.

Express Bus

Express Bus runs between Newark Airport and NY city from 5AM until 1AM. It picks passengers up at each airport terminal and drops off at three main locations in Manhattan:

  • Grand Central Station
  • Bryant Park
  • Port Authority

Surprisingly, it’s not the cheapest transportation available from Newark Airport. One-way ticket is about $18 for an adult, which is more expensive than the train.

Not to mention the inconvenience of traveling on the bus with heavy belongings.

Car rental

There is an option of renting a car and becoming a driver on your own journey.

Yet, if you’re for the first time in New York, it's generally ill-advised to drive in the unknown city. You might get into trouble, and you don’t want that on your very first day in NYC. Besides, parking in New York can be challenging and extremely expensive. But if you feel confident enough, you can find several rental car companies at the airport.

Taxi/Transfer

If it’s your first time in New York City, getting a taxi or booking a transfer from the airport is the most reasonable and convenient way of reaching Manhattan. A taxi stand can be found at all airport terminals. However, not every taxi service in NYC is good value for money. Since taxis are metered from the airport, you’ll pay more if you get stuck in traffic. Besides, tips, tolls, and possible surcharges are not included into your taxi ride fare. Choose wisely the cab company that will get you from the airport to your destination.

We recommend GetTransfer, as it offers the best prices in the area. In case you don’t agree with the company’s pricing, you can offer yours, which is pretty convenient.

For a group of four and more people, GetTransfer can find you a vehicle that suits the size of your company with all the baggage you have. Another sweet little bonus is that you can share the ride cost, which is beneficial for everyone.

For families and passengers with massive luggage, getting a suitable vehicle on GetTransfer is a lifesaver. You won’t have to worry about your heavy belongings or your children getting lost in public transport. GetTransfer is a stress-free experience.

Forget about expensive yellow cabs or confusing subway lines. GetTransfer will get you in comfort and no fuss to any point in the city.

The journey time will take up to 45 minutes, depending on traffic. Still, with GetTransfer the time will fly by while admiring New York City from your passenger seat.

Booking the most suitable vehicle with GetTransfer is as easy as pie. All you need is to either download GetTransfer app on your phone, or visit GetTransfer.com and fill in all the required information on the homepage, and then click “Get Offers”. The rest is up to the system. In a moment, you will be offered several options to choose from. If there are any extra requirements for the driver ― you can leave a message in the comment section.

What you get when you book GetTransfer

  • A wide variety of vehicle types: you can pick from passenger cars to shuttle buses. It all depends on how big your company is and how much baggage you’re carrying.
  • You can book a transfer in advance and schedule a pickup time.
  • No additional costs: taxes, road fees, and tips are included.
  • Your safety comes first. You know in advance who is picking you up, and you can choose your driver based on the ratings and the car photos.
  • You can choose from a few types of private traveling, from the most affordable to the VIP status.
  • Every vehicle comes with individual additional services, be it free Wi-Fi access, cool drinks, safety shield or wheelchair accessible transfer. You can see what a vehicle has onboard when you choose your transfer.
  • Vehicles are family friendly: if you travel with kids, you can find a required child seat type.

Among other perks — with GetTransfer — you can also plan your way back to the airport when it is time to go home.

The driver you choose will wait for you at the arranged time and pre-agreed location. If you can’t keep up, no worries! There is a free waiting time: 60 minutes at airports and 15 minutes at all other locations.
