Araxos International Airport dankt zijn naam aan de kaap van Araksos, die op een paar kilometer van het luchtknooppunt ligt. Net als bij andere luchtvaartmaatschappijen was het vliegveld in Patras oorspronkelijk een militair vliegveld. In de jaren tachtig begon het ook passagiersvluchten te accepteren. In de winter worden alleen charters bediend. Hier verbinden grote luchtvaartmaatschappijen Patras met Düsseldorf, Moskou, Milaan, Paphos, Praag en Stuttgart.
