Bukhara is precies dat: loop door een echte Midden-Oosterse bazaar op zoek naar souvenirs, bezoek een echt 16e eeuws badhuis - Hamman Bozori Kord. Majestueuze moskeeën, versierde madrassa's en minaretten brengen je naar de middeleeuwen van sultans en emirs.

Hoe kom je in Bukhara? Je kunt vanuit Tasjkent een trein nemen naar Bukhara. Als u vliegt, ligt de internationale luchthaven van Bukhara op 6 kilometer afstand van het stadscentrum. Je kunt er komen met de bus of taxi. Het is misschien gemakkelijker om van tevoren een transfer te boeken om er zeker van te zijn dat de chauffeur met u kan communiceren en u niet te veel in rekening brengt.

Door het weer in Bukhara kun je het hele jaar door bezienswaardigheden bekijken. De meest comfortabele tijd om buiten door te brengen is echter maart-juni en september-november, anders is het +50 ℃ in de zomer en 0 ℃ in de winter.

De meeste lokale bezienswaardigheden dateren uit de negende eeuw, maar er zijn er enkele die veel ouder zijn. Het belangrijkste bezienswaardigheid is het Po-i-Kalan-ensemble dat in de XII-XVI eeuw is opgericht. Het bestaat uit de drie architectonische monumenten: Kalan minaret en moskee en de Mir-i Arab madrasa. Deze kegelvormige minaret is het hoogste gebouw in het midden, het is verboden iets hoger op te richten. De Kalan-moskee is de op een na grootste moskee in Centraal-Azië en werd gevonden in 1514. De Mir-i Arab madrasa werd gebouwd in de zestiende eeuw en behield zijn religieuze elitestatus tot het begin van de twintigste eeuw.

Op enkele minuten afstand vindt u een winterpaleis van emirs - de ark. Dit fort werd gedurende twee en een half duizend jaar talloze keren verwoest en herbouwd. Tegenwoordig is dit het belangrijkste archeologische instituut en museum. De verzameling wordt elke opgraving bijgewerkt die plaatsvindt in de ark.

Op 6 kilometer afstand ligt Sitora-i Mokhi Khosa - het zomerpaleis van de laatste Bukharan Emir Said Mir Mohammed Alim Khan. Dit ensemble werd aan het begin van de twintigste eeuw gebouwd in een combinatie van de Europese en Aziatische stijlen. Je kunt ook de verloren stad Varahsha bezoeken op 30 kilometer van de stad. Huur een chauffeur voor een dag in Bukhara om meer een dag buiten de stad door te brengen.
