Traveling to London from London City Airport
When planning your visit to London, you might consider paying closer attention to its airports, which are geographically diverse, as some are located very close to the city, while others are on the outskirts.
It all depends on what part of the city you are staying in. If you are a typical tourist and your hotel is not far from the city center, we’d recommend you take a closer look at London City Airport. It’s probably the smallest international airport out of all existing. London has 6 airports at the moment. Together, they make the second busiest airport system in the world in terms of aircraft movements. They offer service to about 400 international destinations and 15 domestic ones.
Although LCY is, as we mentioned, the smallest London airport, its location is the most beneficial of all, because it’s situated just about 9.5 km east of central London. Due to its size, the departures and arrivals are much quicker and easier than those at larger airports in the city.
The main airlines that fly from LCY are British Airways, Alitalia, Blue Islands, CityJet, KLM, Lufthansa, Luxair, Sky Work, and Swiss International Airlines.
The LCY arrivals hall is located on the ground floor of the small terminal.
After the passport control, baggage claim, and customs formalities, you will find a wide range of shops and eateries throughout the entire airport. Whether you want to grab something to eat or relax after your flight by having a long lunch in a nice restaurant, you can expect the airport to get you covered on that.
Traveling between LCY and London
When it comes to getting from London City Airport to your hotel or desired destination, there is no easier task.
LCY is connected to the London Underground network. The airport has its own stop on the Docklands Light Railway, which is a driverless train line. It will take you 15 minutes to get to Stanford station and around 20 minutes to get to Bank station. Services run every eight to 15 minutes.
If you arrive from overseas, it’s worth buying a Visitor Oyster Card, so you can use London public transport, such as the Underground. You can buy it online or at London City Airport DLR station. There is also an option of using the Apple Pay system at most London stations.
You can also travel by bus from London City Airport, but we would recommend you to take a taxi or book a transfer instead, especially if you are new to the city. It’s much less worrisome, and you’ll get the most of your ride in a car across the city center, admiring London city sights.
