You can reach the city in several ways. The Stavanger airport is just 14km away from the city. You can take a bus or shuttle from there or, alternatively, a taxi or a transfer.

Stavanger is the 4th largest city in Norway. 180 000 people live here. All the houses in Gamle area are white and because of that Stavanger is often called the White City.

The main landmark of the city is the Stavanger Cathedral, the oldest in the country. This majestic building towers over the Breiavatnen lake. The cathedral survived several fires and has been renovated several times. The last renovation was in 1957 when the new stained glass window was installed. Be sure to visit the art museum where 1500 examples of local craftsmen are presented.

What else to see in Stavanger? Visit the Oil Museum. Here you can learn many things about this indispensable resource, how it is created and how the economic boom of Norway happened ( 80% of Norway’s oil extraction is located in Stavanger). Also, a miniature floating oil platform is nearby for children to explore.

If the weather in Stanager is good, climb the Valanhaug hill. From its 85m height, you can enjoy a view of the city.

We advise not to stay too long in the city. Locals love nature and open-air activities. If there is no snow, they do nordic walking. Hiking is also very popular and there are many touristic paths, markers and maps in many places. If you seek extreme experience, go to Kerag mountain and take a base jump from the top.
